MEET THE VERTEBRATES
As you know animals are
classified between vertebrates and invertebrates.
- Invertebrate organisms compose the highest
group of living things and are classified into more than 30 phyla. A few
of them are sponges, cnidarians, mollusks, arthropods, echinoderms, and
worms.
- On the other hand, we find vertebrates that are organisms that
have a backbone and are divided into Fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds and
mammals.
Look at some of their
general characteristics on the chart below, then answer the questions in your
notebook:

Helpful tip
Do you know what oviparous and viviparous
animals are?
It’s simple, here the definition:
- Oviparous animals: are animals that are born from an egg. For example the
chicken, the salmon, the snake, the frog and many more!
- Viviparous organisms: are living things that are born from the mother´s womb. For example: you, me, horses, cows, etc.
Check the video to learn a lot more and be
a scientist!
*Now that you know the most important
aspects about vertebrates let’s put hands on work. Taking into account the
information provided, answer the following questions in your notebook.
Activity
#2
Answer the following questions
1. Which is the only group of vertebrates that is
viviparous?
2. Which groups can live with lungs?
3. Which groups live in water?
4. Which groups are warm-blooded?
5. Which groups have scales?
